Movie Reviews: My Kid Could Paint That & Saw IV

Although it seems so far that I only talk about television, I do watch movies as well. I have to make use of my Netflix account. Here are my latest movie viewings…

My Kid Could Paint That (2007, Amir Bar-Lev)

A very interesting documentary from Amir Bar-Lev. It starts off as a human interest story about this four year old girl who does amazing abstract paintings. Then about a half-hour into the film a 60 Minutes piece completely shatters what we’ve seen from the film so far. It calls into question the authenticity of the paintings and the film takes a complete turn. It’s so compelling and balanced. One of the best films of last year. Excellent all around.
Grade: A

Saw IV (2007, Darren Lynn Bousman)

I’m not a big horror fan, but I do find the Saw series to be entertaining. This was the weakest of the series though. This one mostly deals with one police commander tracking the Jigsaw killer again. Not much of a plot, although it does end up becoming very convoluted towards the end. It’s an amusing film and the ‘best’ parts are the games that Jigsaw killer creates. There’s just not enough here to recommend it. I would recommend the first three film of the series though.
