Rescue Me – “Drink” – Season 5 Finale
I should get around to finally posting things. First up, my thoughts about the season finale of the never-ending fifth season of Rescue Me. While I would love to say that it finished out strong, it did anything but that. It might have even ended on it’s worst season finale ever.
The penultimate episode the previous week was actually an improvement. Callie Thorne & Andrea Roth were both absent and it focused more on the crew and Maura Tierney’s character. But then it completely backtracked in the finale. The main focus was on the two batshit ladies played by Thorne & Roth. That storyline did not work at all. I didn’t buy for a second that those ladies would completely erase what Tommy had done to them previously and fall madly in love with him. The strength of the show was always in the ensemble scenes involving the firefighters and that was sorely lacking from a major portion of this season.
The season started off so promising too. The french woman played by Karina Lombard was very interesting and brought up many of the themes that made the show so fantastic in its first few seasons. Then they completely dropped it and never mentioned it. Hopefully they’ll revisit it in the last two seasons, but it doesn’t make up for the lack of it this season. Boo on them!
The cliffhanger? Meh. I don’t like the way it was set up and who ended up being the catalyst for it. I really have no interest in finding out what happens when the show returns next summer.
